The Event Technician works as part of the live event presentation crew at a major arena, supporting hockey, basketball and other live events in both the broadcast/control room and in-arena environments. The role covers one or more technical positions such as control room director, technical director, camera operator, audio board operator, video editor or stage manager. The technician provides hands-on support for live sporting events, assists the entertainment department with promotions and activities, and takes part in rehearsals and pre-game checks. The position coordinates with talent, promotional teams and staff to ensure the smooth execution of all live elements.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support for live sporting events, including, but not limited to, Daktronics ribbons and scoreboard, audio booth, broadcast control room, Triple Play’s IPTV system, and stage manager duties
- Assist the Entertainment Department with the planning and execution of live promotions, events, and activities
- Participate in rehearsals, including sound check, communication device check, camera set-up, playlist/scripts review, and all pre-game checks as needed
- Coordinate with contestants, Ducks Power Players, Ice Crew, staff, hosts, mascots, promotional teams, and additional talent for proper execution of all live elements, including opening introductions, in-game promotions, intermission activities, ceremonies, color guard, and additional performers
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: Ikegami HDK-95C cameras, Ross Acuity 3, Ross Xpression, Ross Inception, Evertz DreamCatcher, Daktronics Show Control & Venus 7000, Yamaha CL5 Audio Board, and Triple Play
- Able to multitask while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Willing and able to learn additional positions and cross-train when possible
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a live broadcast or live sports environment, TV/Film production, live event management, or relevant experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented and creative environment
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays as required
- Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience Required - 3-5 Years
