The Assistant Banquet Manager at Augusta Country Club is responsible for supporting the Director of Banquets in planning and executing events such as weddings, corporate events, and private parties. This role involves supervising banquet staff, ensuring proper setup and service, coordinating with kitchen and other departments, and handling member and guest needs to deliver a polished experience. The position requires hands-on leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks during high-volume events.
Responsibilities
- Make elevating the member and guest experience the primary focus of every event by anticipating needs, personalizing interactions, and helping ensure each person feels recognized, welcomed, and well cared for.
- Assist the Director of Banquets with planning and executing banquet events from setup through breakdown.
- Supervise and lead banquet staff during events, modeling warm, attentive, polished service that reflects club standards.
- Conduct pre-event meetings that align the team around member preferences, event details, timelines, menus, special requests, and service touchpoints.
- Ensure banquet rooms, tables, equipment, and service areas are properly set up before each event.
- Monitor food and beverage service to ensure quality, presentation, and timing meet expectations.
- Engage professionally and proactively with members and guests, resolving questions, concerns, and special requests in a way that protects and enhances the overall experience.
- Coordinate closely with the kitchen, event planners, vendors, and other departments.
- Assist with scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management of banquet employees.
- Monitor staffing levels and adjust assignments as needed throughout an event.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized banquet environment.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and responsible alcohol-service practices.
- Assist with inventory, equipment, supplies, and event-related paperwork.
- Handle unexpected challenges calmly, discreetly, and solution-first so members and guests experience confidence, continuity, and care.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Attend weekly BEO meetings, Food & Beverage meetings, and leadership meetings to support event planning and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Previous experience in banquet, catering, restaurant, hotel, or event operations required.
- Strong member-service mindset with excellent communication skills and the ability to create a welcoming, polished experience.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to notice and correct small service details before they affect members or guests.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize during high-volume events.
- Professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required by events.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, and move equipment for extended periods.
