The AV Technician will install, service, test, and troubleshoot commercial audiovisual and low-voltage systems, including projectors, displays, speakers, cameras, and microphones. They will work with structured cabling, perform rack fabrication, and assist with control programming. The role involves working on commercial job sites, both new construction and retrofit, and requires adherence to safety and documentation standards. This is a contract position with potential for hire, working as part of a project team or independently.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, test and troubleshoot commercial audio-visual systems
- Install projectors, projection screens and flat-panel displays
- Install wall- and ceiling-mounted speakers and cameras
- Install tabletop, ceiling and wireless microphone systems
- Perform rack fabrication, equipment staging and equipment installation
- Install and work with Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic and other structured cabling
- Pull, dress, organize and label cable according to industry standards
- Install outlets, patch panels, fiber enclosures, racks, backboards and related hardware
- Perform copper and fiber splicing and identify active circuits
- Assist with grounding infrastructure and grounding testing
- Upload and download control programs, including Extron systems
- Assist with minor programming changes under the direction of an engineer or programmer
- Use appropriate test equipment to troubleshoot and verify system performance
- Work in both new construction and retrofit environments
- Complete required job-site documentation
- Follow all company and job-site safety requirements
- Provide professional customer service while working at client locations
Requirements
- High school diploma, technical school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Approximately 3+ years of experience with communications infrastructure, structured cabling, commercial AV or related low-voltage installation
- Experience working with fiber, copper, coax and/or hybrid cabling
- Understanding of commercial audio and video systems
- Ability to read and work from installation plans and technical documentation
- Ability to safely use hand tools and appropriate test equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work overtime, nights or weekends when project requirements call for it Valid driver's license required
- Candidates must maintain a valid driver's license.
- Depending on the client assignment or worksite, additional screening or job-site requirements may apply.

- Cisco
- Extron
- BSS DSP systems
- Video over IP
- CTS or CTS-I certification
- OSHA 10
- CCNA
- Commercial sound reinforcement, paging, public address and DSP systems
- Candidates do not need to hold every certification listed above to be considered.
- Relevant hands-on commercial AV and low-voltage experience is strongly valued.
