The Lead Event Technician - Audio-Visual provides advanced technical maintenance, event support, troubleshooting, and user training for audio-visual, broadcast, and live event technology at Mountain Waves Arena and other AV-enabled spaces. This role maintains primary operational oversight of assigned technical functions, supports events during business hours, evenings, and weekends, and partners with campus stakeholders, vendors, and CENTERS team members to deliver reliable, professional, and guest-centered event experiences. The position works on-site at Pepperdine as part of a hybrid AV Team serving the new Mountain at Mullin Park multi-purpose facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality support for arena technology hardware, software products, audio-visual equipment, broadcast equipment, and live event technology.
  • Configure, operate, test, and troubleshoot audio-visual, broadcast, graphics, routing, and event-related technical equipment before, during, and after events.
  • Use established scripts, checklists, service procedures, and good judgment to resolve issues promptly and escalate matters when needed.
  • Lead integration testing and provide input during project planning, requirements gathering, setup, and post-event review.
  • Create, monitor, and update service tickets for assigned work; document troubleshooting notes, resolutions, recurring issues, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide on-the-spot training, technical guidance, and service explanations to faculty, staff, students, clients, guests, vendors, and event partners.
  • Coordinate technology resources, support event schedules, and help resolve resource conflicts when demand exceeds available capacity.
  • Maintain team operations guides, training materials, frequently asked questions, equipment documentation, and shared technical resources.
  • Identify service improvements based on support trends, client feedback, event outcomes, peer input, and operational assessment.
  • Support clean, safe, organized, and professional workspaces, storage areas, control rooms, and shared event environments.
  • Provide technical guidance, event direction, task coordination, and training support to student employees, part-time employees, temporary staff, vendors, or event support personnel as assigned.
  • Support audio-visual operations for Mountain Waves Arena and related AV-enabled event spaces.
  • Represent CENTERS and the client institution professionally when working with internal departments, external vendors, event clients, public guests, and campus partners.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with campus personnel, student-facing departments, technical partners, and contracted service providers.
  • Respond to last-minute event changes by coordinating technical reconfiguration, equipment routing, graphics, audio, and other live event support needs within the scope of responsibility.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of AV projects, consultations, service improvements, and technology upgrades as assigned.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 or more years of work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience supporting high-profile live events, audiovisual technology, event production, broadcast support, concert support, information technology, or a closely related area required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of standard audiovisual hardware and software products, with the ability to support arena-specific audiovisual systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers, applications, and technology tools in a networked environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing event conditions, and maintain professional service standards in visible client-facing environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize competing duties and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues, clients, vendors, students, and guests.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm for continuous improvement, operational excellence, and high-quality service delivery.

Nice to have

  • Possession of Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), CTS-I, CTS-D, Extron, Dante, or comparable professional audiovisual technology certifications is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Extron-manufactured products and associated troubleshooting and maintenance preferred.
