The Production Manager is a member of the local management team, working with the Production Stage Manager and Company Manager to coordinate the successful, efficient, and safe running of day-to-day show operations and outside events for the Las Vegas production of Blue Man Group. The role oversees technical operations, manages production staff, develops budgets, ensures safety compliance, and fosters communication across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Blue Man Group values and artistic vision are understood and supported across the organization;
  • Ensure an efficient and fiscally responsible operation of the Las Vegas production (BMV);
  • Develop annual production/technical operating budget and capital replacement plan of technical assets in conjunction with General Manager (GM) and Heads of Department (HODs);
  • Monitor and evaluate show systems and infrastructure needs;
  • Approve production/technical purchases and ensure appropriate inventory is maintained to execute published performance calendars;
  • Coordinate with the PSM and CM, in executing day-to-day operations; including smooth and safe operation during performances, rehearsals, and other activities backstage, on-stage, and in the house;
  • Work with the PSM to create, maintain and ensure the execution of all backstage and on-stage safety and emergency procedures;
  • Oversee all technical elements for content refreshes and system upgrades/replacements through coordination with PSM, CM, BMP Production, HODs, Artistic Direction (AD), and local crew;
  • Serve as the technical point person for outside PR/Marketing gigs, appearances, and special events;
  • Develop and maintain inventory lists of production-related equipment and ensure proper storage and access;
  • Oversee the utilization and organization of production storage spaces, both onsite and offsite;
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of all show production infrastructure and equipment, managing relationships with relevant third-party vendors;
  • Serve as a key leader in the implementation and monitoring of the Workplace Safety Plan;
  • Recommend, implement, and monitor completion of crew safety training and certifications, job hazard assessments, required inspection logs and documentation;
  • Ensure all show materials, when applicable, are fire tested and all necessary permits obtained and maintained;
  • Manage production/technical staff;
  • Directly manage HODs and indirectly manage Full-time and On-call Crew;
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and retention of all production/technical staff;
  • Update and maintain accurate job descriptions, job hazard assessments, and training and development protocols and programs;
  • Oversee performance management of all production/technical staff and initiate corrective action in coordination with CM, when necessary;
  • Actively facilitate communication between the various show departments;
  • Create and monitor effective scheduling systems, procedures, and compliance for the Crew;
  • Monitor show reports and track the successful completion of the technical show notes, identify any roadblocks or resource issues from a personnel and financial perspective, and present solutions to PSM and GM in a timely manner;
  • Track operator errors, identify repeated incidents, and address in conjunction with the HODs;
  • Oversee daily maintenance and large projects and ensure they are completed thoroughly, on time, and within budget limits;
  • In conjunction with the PSM, conduct regular production meetings with HODs and Stage Management;
  • Conduct regular and frequent check-ins with HODs to discuss departmental needs, job performance, project details, and related production/technical concerns;
  • Conduct all Talent Dialogues with BMV production/technical staff within dictated timeframe;
  • Work with procurement, BMP Production, HODs, Production Managers at BMG sister productions, AD, and CdS Health and Safety to facilitate the integration of new/replacement products and materials, including maintain SDS documentation;
  • Serve as a member of the local management team;
  • Foster a collaborative team environment with BMV Company Members and Luxor Crew, proactively addresses problems and concerns;
  • Maintain and foster open communication between Local Managers, HODs, Blue Man Captain, Resident Music Director(s), and the rest of the local company;
  • Participate in meetings and workshops, as requested;
  • Regularly meet with GM to share updates on the production/technical departments, including opportunities, and challenges;
  • All other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Project and resource management: ability to maintain multi-person, multi-event schedules;
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
  • Verification of the right to work in the United States for Blue Man Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization;
  • Able to pass a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education, and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law;
  • The Senior Production Manager is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. S/he must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position requires ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
