The Volunteer Events Coordinator is a student hourly position within Campus Activities and Student Engagement at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The role involves organizing, promoting, and implementing volunteer events for the UWSP community, working with community agencies to address social justice issues and community needs. The coordinator will also support the CASE volunteer programs team, create marketing materials, and evaluate program effectiveness. This position requires 8-12 hours per week during the academic year.
Responsibilities
- The Volunteer Events Coordinator is responsible for organizing, promoting, and implementing one-time and recurring volunteer events for the UWSP community in response to community needs and students’ interests. The Volunteer Events Coordinator will identify ways to educate the campus community on various social justice issues. The Volunteer Events Coordinator is also responsible for working as a member of the CASE volunteer programs team to brainstorm, create and facilitate volunteer opportunities that meet the needs of UWSP students and community.
- Prepare and submit goals at the beginning of the year
- Work in conjunction with community agencies and students to identify the social justice issues and community needs of Portage County that will serve as the basis for creating volunteer opportunities for UWSP
- Promote volunteer events and programs at Volunteer Fairs, Labor of Love, Orientation, and other campus-wide events as needed
- Write and compile event reports
- Meet weekly with supervisor and attend staff meetings, trainings and professional development sessions
- Maintain and update transition materials
- Attend the summer volunteer staff training retreat
- Organize, promote, plan, implement recurring volunteer events each month with various community agencies and organizations
- Keep open communication with community agencies and organizations prior to events and follow-up afterwards
- Organize, promote, implement, and staff monthly service events including
- the United Way fall semester event, Make a Difference Day
- Sustainable Saturdays
- Saturdays with Seniors
- Blood Drives
- Work with marketing team to create marketing materials for volunteer events and programs
- Evaluate and assess the program ability to meet goals of the office and university
- All staff members are required to assist at CASE-sponsored events outside of the normal scope of position duties; it is expected that each staff member will work additional hours throughout the semester to ensure adequate staff coverage at these events
- Perform other assigned duties and complete projects as they arise
Requirements
- In addition to the general qualifications for all UWSP student employees of taking at least 6 undergraduate or 5 graduate credits per semester and being in good academic standing with the University (cumulative and semester GPAs of 2.0 or better), the Volunteer Events Coordinator must:
- Demonstrate excellent computer skills and be detail oriented
- Possess organizational and time-management skills as well as oral and written communication skills
- Have a willingness to be creative with program planning and promotion
- Be able to communicate well with people on and off campus to coordinate and prepare for events
- Have general knowledge of promotional tactics and public relations
- Have a general knowledge of working as part of a team in an office environment
- Possess an ability to work independently on assigned tasks
- Be available to work some evenings and weekends
