The Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology department is recruiting student Events Assistants to support academic staff at a one-day Being Human Festival event held off campus at the Library of Birmingham on 7 November 2026. The family event, aimed at children aged 8-12, explores ancient diplomacy and non-verbal communication through crafting activities with air-drying clay, colouring, and a choreography activity based on stories of ancient diplomatic encounters. The role involves setting up and clearing the event, greeting and checking in guests, guiding them between the two event rooms, assisting with crafting activities, and helping organisers with media permissions and feedback collection. It is a part-time, flexible student role through the University's Worklink service, working 9am-5pm on the event day.
Responsibilities
- Setting up and clearing the event
- Meeting and greeting event guests, checking them in and guiding them to and between our two event rooms in the Library of Birmingham
- Assisting with crafting activities
- Assisting organisers with checking media permissions for participants and collecting feedback
Requirements
- Experience of providing excellent customer service to the public
- Confidence with basic IT systems
- Teamwork skills
Nice to have
- Interest in the ancient classical world and material culture and/or choreography is desirable
